Tanzania Cultural Immersion June 2020 Itinerary

  June 13-14: Days 1-2 (Sat-Sun)

           On Our Way

                     Depart from JFK to Dubai and then to Dar es Salaam. Transport to Bagamoyo.

 

  June 15: Day 3 (M)

           Welcome to Bagamoyo

                     History Tour of Bagamoyo including

                      Slave quarters and markets, German Forts, Fish Market, First Schools and the Slave Museum.

  

  June 16-17: Day 4-5 (Tu-W)

           BEE Montessori Preschool/Camp

                      BEE: Meet the Montessori teachers and students and learn about Montessori methods

           Students Empowering Students Club

                      SES: Meet with the SES students and work with them on English and computer skills.

          

  June 18: Day 6 (Th)

            Magogoni Primary School/Maasai

                      Magogoni Primary School: Travel to the remote village of Magogoni (Pineapple Land) where ASFE first built a primary                                        school, latrines and teacher housing. 

                      Maasai Village: Visit with our dear friend Seratiani and her family.

  June 21: Day 9 (Sun)

           Boat Safari to Saadani National Park           

                      Drive through Saadani National Park to the Wami River for Boat safari descending the river (9 kms) for around 2 hours.

                      Hippos, crocodiles, monkeys and birds are very common and easy to see. Elephants, giraffe are not so common but also we                                have seen many times.

           Mnindi Primary School

                   Mnindi Primary School: Travel to Mnindi village in Vigwaza Ward to visit the 2nd primary school built by ASFE in 2014.

  June 26-June 29: Days 14-17 (F-M)

            Safari To Ngorongoro Crater (3 Nights/4 Days)

                 Day 1: Fly from Dar-es-Salaam to Arusha, Visit Tuma’s and Emma’s family in Moshi, Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
                     Make your own way to Dar-es-Salaam International airport to catch Precision Air at 7:30 am arriving in Kilimanjaro at                                       8:55 am where you will be met by our driver guide. Travel to Moshi to visit with Tuma and Emma’s families and then                                         drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Arrive at Rhino Lodge and relax at the lodge with possible Cape Buffalo before                                           dinner then overnight, on full board basis.

                Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater Tour

                     Early start, transfer to Ngorongoro crater and descend the 600 meters down to the crater floor where you will spend a                                         full day on game drives with picnic lunch. The crater is famous for its large mammal populations - keep an eye out for                                       the elusive black rhino; there are around 23 in the crater. Most of the elephant you see will be bulls as females tend to                                         avoid the area due to its having the highest predator density in Africa.

                     Leave the crater around 3pm then transfer to Bougainvillea Safari Lodge in Karatu village. Enjoy by the pool or relax at                                         the lodge before dinner and overnight, on full board basis.

              Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park

                       Early start, transfer to Lake Manyara for a game drive to explore the park with packed lunch. Lake Manyara, a Rift                                               Valley chain lake, is nestled at the foot of a spectacular 2,000-foot escarpment and is surrounded by a lush tropical                                               forest filled with towering mahogany and fig trees. During the game drive, visit the park's five different vegetation                                               zones and spend time at the lake-shore viewing magnificent birds. Encounter baboon, giraffe, hippopotamus,                                                       elephant, and buffalo. If lucky, you may glimpse Manyara's famous tree-climbing lions. Leave the park around 4pm                                             then transfer to Arusha (about 2 hours). Drop at Jacaranda Hotel where you will have dinner and overnight, on bed and                                       breakfast.

             Day 4: Explore Arusha before transfer to Arusha Airport - fly to Dar-es-Salaam

                       After breakfast, a driver with a transfer car will pick you up from the lodge and transfer to Maasai market. You might                                         choose to have lunch at one of the restaurants in Arusha town before transfer to Arusha airport to catch Precision Air                                         at 13:50hrs back to Dar-es-Salaam. Arrive in Dar-es-Salaam at 15:50hrs. The flight goes via Zanzibar. End of safari.

           Celebration 4th of July 

                   Farewell party with ASFE staff and friends at Bagamoyo Harvest Farm with Traditional music, dancing and food.

           

 July 3-4: Days 21-22 (F-Sat)

           University of Dar es Salaam/Airport

                     Depart Bagamoyo after breakfast and stop and visit students at UDSM

                      on way to airport. Arrive by 1:30pm for Emirates 4:45 flight to Dubai and on to JFK – arrive 8:25am.

This is a tentative schedule and activities and days may change due to weather conditions in Tanzania
